The Petersen Events Center is located on the University of Pittsburgh's upper campus and overlooks Oakland, Litchfield Towers, and the Cathedral of Learning. Completed in the spring of 2002, the building is the largest individual gift in University history, funded with $10 million from alumnus John Petersen and his wife, Gertrude. It functions as the arena for Pitt's division 1A basketball team, and a platform for commencement and graduation ceremonies, campus and community events, and performances from artists and ensembles including Cirque du Soleil, Bob Dylan, Hilary Duff, Cher and Good Charlotte.
